- Wally,
- AmiTCP, PPP v1.3 and all of its client work fine on my A1200. By what
- you wrote, I'm under the assumption that you used the "IGNORE" selection in the
- Executive config program. I don't think that will work correctly, especially
- if you start AmiTCP from a shell. If Executive is running and AmiTCP is
- started from a shell, the shell will be the parent and AmiTCP the child of it.
- Therefore, the processes may not get scheduled, but they will probably have
- a pretty low priority because of the shell's low priority.
-
- My suggestion is a two step process. Start up your computer with
- Executive running, and run one of its clients called "Top". Use the Top
- program
- to determine what the name of each process is for AmiTCP and its clients.
- Next, go to the Executive config program and make sure you have all the
- entries you need for AmiTCP and its clients, too. For the priority setting,
- use the "ABOVE" selection so their priorities stay above the dynamic range.
- Also, as a hint in entering the names of your processes, use the asterisk
- wildcard (*) whenver possible, but make sure to keep your names unique enough
- not to affect anything you don't want to affect with Executive.
-
- My system is set up this way and everything works fine. Sometimes my
- Workbench gets a little sluggish when I'm doing things, but I just use the
- Commander program and turn up its priority to compensate when I'm doing
- something else while downloading in FTP or whatever.
-
- Send me some email to the address in my signature if you have any
- further questions.
